'Think beyond the bin' this National Recycling Week: 10 – 16 November

Each year, National Recycling Week helps remind us all that small everyday actions can make a big difference in reducing waste and protecting our environment.

This year’s theme encourages everyone to think beyond the bin - recognising that recycling isn’t just about what goes into the yellow-lid kerbside bin, but also about going the extra mile to keep more items out of landfill, extend the life of precious resources, and make more sustainable choices.

Think beyond kerbside recycling at Tamala Park

The Tamala Park Recycling and Free Drop-Off Centre is the perfect place to do your bit this National Recycling Week. As well as cans, paper, glass, cardboard, and plastics, the centre accepts a wide range of other items, including:

  • Household hazardous waste (paints, chemicals, batteries, gas bottles)
  • Metals and white goods (fridges, freezers, air conditioners)
  • E-waste (computers, phones, televisions and other items powered by a plug or batteries)
  • Household goods for resale through our Reuse Shop

Sustainable habits that save you money

The Tamala Park Reuse Shop is always on the lookout for pre-loved household goods in good condition. By offering items such as furniture, kitchenware, electronics, books, clothing, bikes, and sporting equipment for resale, the shop not only helps reduce waste, but also provides the community with an affordable alternative to buying new.

The Reuse Shop also delivers real environmental and social benefits. Operated by Workpower, a not-for-profit social enterprise, the shop creates opportunities for people with disabilities while contributing to the local community.

About National Recycling Week

National Recycling Week is held across Australia every November and is coordinated by Planet Ark, a not-for-profit environmental organisation founded in 1992.

The campaign aims to educate and empower people to rethink waste as a valuable resource which can be turned into new projects, keeping materials in circulation for as long as possible.
