Free Asbestos Drop Off

This service is available to residents/householders ONLY. Commercial disposal of asbestos and asbestos containing materials is subject to our standard fees and charges.

Householders can dispose of up to 165KG of asbestos containing material at Tamala Park for free every Sunday. Disposal on any other day will attract a fee.

The 165kg limit is consistent with the guidelines for safe disposal of Asbestos without a licence, as set by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER)

For Asbestos loads over 165kg, the first 165kg will be free and the additional amount will be charged at the normal asbestos rate (see fees and charges).

Householders (only) may make multiple visits up to a maximum of five, after which Mindarie Regional Council (MRC) reserves the right to refuse entry and/or charge.

How to prepare asbestos for disposal:

Asbestos containing materials must be prepared appropriately before arriving at Tamala Park.

  • The Asbestos containing material must be double wrapped in heavy duty (200 micron) builder’s plastic and sealed with strong duct tape
  • It must be securely wrapped and taped in such a manner as to prevent the release of asbestos fibres both during transport and disposal
  • It must be clearly labelled ‘Caution Asbestos’ on the outside of the packaging
  • It must pass an inspection and be deemed safe for disposal by a Tamala Park attendent

If the Asbestos has not been wrapped and labelled correctly, or is judged unsafe for disposal for any other reason, you will be refused access to this service and directed to rectify the problem off site. You will not be allowed to wrap or otherwise alter the condition of the items for disposal while on our premises.

The decision of the attendant is final and no discussion will be entered into.

Heavy duty (200 micron) builders plastic, bags and duct tape are widely available from hardware stores and specialist retailers.

Other conditions:

  • Asbestos must be unloaded by hand. You must not tip Asbestos directly from a vehicle.
  • You must unload Asbestos yourself. Staff at Tamala Park will not be able to help you.
  • Householders must complete a Residential Asbestos Drop Off Declaration. This should be downloaded and filled in prior to arrival to avoid delays.  Alternatively, the form can be obtained at the weighbridge on arrival.
