5 Steps You Can Take

What you can do

More and more of us are recognising the value to the environment - and our hip-pockets - of reducing, reusing and recycling the products we use.

But, there's another step we need to take in making our efforts most effective.  We need to be always mindful of disposing of our waste correctly.

Each year, the Resource Recovery Facility in Neerabup will convert some 100,000 tonnes of organic household waste into about 30,000 tonnes of market-quality soil conditioner (compost) to boost the quality of our nutrient-deficient soils.

But, it's really important that the plant's feedstock - the material we put in our household green-lidded wheelie bin - doesn't contain products that will damage the compost production process.

5 Steps You Can Take

  1. Think about what you can do to minimise waste.

  2. Only put household waste into your green-lidded household wheelie bin

  3. Keep all household hazardous waste (HHW) products out of your wheelie bin and dispose of them appropriately.  For further information on HHW Disposal click here.

  4. Contact your local council to find out what should go in your other bin - the recycling bin - and make the effort to put recyclables there, to keep them out of landfill.

  5. Contact your local council to find out what to do with any other products.
