Tour options

The following tour options are available:

 

Option 1: Tamala Park landfill, recycling centre and education centre

Tamala Park Waste Management Facility accepts over 350,000 tonnes of waste each year for landfill in the northern suburbs of Perth.  This tour incorporates the public recycling centre/tip shop, waste drop off/transfer station, landfill site, landfill gas power plant and education centre.  For more details click here.
 
Duration:  2 hours
Appropriate for:  All ages
Availability:  Monday to Friday
End of Month Tours:  On the last Saturday of each month tours alternate between Tamala Park, Education Centre and the Resource Recovery Facility (RRF). (Feb-Nov)
Requirements:  This is a bus tour so groups of more than 7 people will need to hire a bus with a microphone.  To find out about our bus subsidies click here.  
Tour group sizes:
  • Individuals can join one of our regular tours in our vehicle on the last Saturday morning of every month (Feb-Nov). 
  • Small groups of between 4 and 7 people will be accommodated in our vehicle. 
  • Larger groups of 7 or more will need to hire a bus (see above requirements).  We recommend a maximum tour group size of around 30 people.

 

Option 2: Resource Recovery Facility (RRF) and visitors' centre (2 hours)

The RRF in Neerabup takes 100,000 tonnes of resident green-lid wheelie bin/household waste per year and converts the organic fraction into compost. This tour takes visitors' on an external circuit of the facility; to a viewing platform to see some of the internal operations; and then to the visitors centre to learn more about the facility and waste issues in general.  For more details click here
 
Duration:  2 hours
Appropriate for:  Adults and students in Years 5 to 12
Availability:  Monday to Friday 
End of Month Tours:  On the last Saturday of each month tours alternate between Tamala Park, Education Centre and the Resource Recovery Facility (RRF). (Feb-Nov)
Requirements:  Closed in shoes are required attire.  Bus subsidies are available for groups visiting the RRF, although this is not a bus tour.  To find out about our bus subsidies click here.
Tour group sizes:

  • We run tours for a minimum of 4 people and recommend a maximum tour group size of around 25 people.   

 

Option 3: Tamala Park landfill, recycling centre, education centre plus Resource Recovery Facility (RRF) and visitors' centre

This tour covers all the facilities outlined in tour options 1 and 2.
 
Duration:  3½ hours
Appropriate for:  Adults and students in Years 10 to 12
Availability:  Monday to Friday
Requirements:   This is a bus tour so groups of more than 7 people will need to hire a bus with a microphone.  To find out about our bus subsidies click here.

Additional tour options

Additional tour options can be arranged upon request for groups with a particular interest.

A) Tamala Park Tip Shop visit

Before you head home after the tour you may like to visit and take a closer look at the tip shop. Be  amazed at the quality of goods people discard, it is a case of ‘one man’s trash is another man’s  treasure’.  You may even like to take home a bargain.  For more details click here.
 
Duration: 30 minutes
Appropriate for:  All ages
Availability:  The Tip Shop is open Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. If your tour coincides with the opening times  you may like to add this in conjunction with other MRC tour options or you can just come back in your own time.
 

B)   Balcatta Recycling Centre

By appointment ONLY for Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. For bookings contact the City of Stirling on (08) 9205 8555.
(MRC bus subsidy not available for this tour)
 
The tour incorporates the public recycling centre where City of Stirling residents dispose of household goods and other recyclable items (including green waste), plus the transfer station where general waste is deposited to be taken to Tamala Park. This facility is very similar to the Tamala Park Recycling Centre.  The tour is primarily a walking tour (with wheelchair access).

 Requirements: Group of minimum 5 and maximum 20 people
