Landfill Gas Drilling Program
30/09/2021
From Monday 4th October 2021, the Mindarie Regional Council (MRC) will be undertaking drilling works within the confines of the Tamala Park Waste Management Facility to install additional landfill gas extraction pipework. From Monday 4th October 2021, the Mindarie Regional Council (MRC) will be undertaking drilling works within the confines of the Tamala Park Waste Management Facility to install additional landfill gas extraction pipework.

Effective gas extraction reduces landfill odours and associated environmental impacts of the landfill, with the captured gas being used to generate electricity at the onsite power station.

The drilling will pass through old landfill waste layers with the potential to release odours. Steps are being taken to control these emissions, but there is the possibility that some odours may escape.  The strength and duration of any odour event will depend on the prevailing weather conditions at the time.

The timing of the works has been scheduled to minimise any odour impact upon the community. Drilling activities are scheduled to occur during the MRC’s regular operational hours of 7:00 am to 4:45 pm, Monday to Friday, for a period of 25 working days, finishing Friday 29th October 2021.

The MRC appreciates the support of the local community as we seek to improve the capability of the landfill gas extraction system.

Feedback regarding this program can be provided by contacting the MRC’s administration by phoning 9306 6303 between 8:30am and 4:30pm Monday to Friday, or alternatively via email to admin@mrc.wa.gov.au
