From Friday, 24th May 2019 the Mindarie Regional Council (MRC) will be undertaking drilling works within the confines of the Tamala Park landfill to install additional gas extraction infrastructure. These improvements will add to the already extensive network of gas extraction pipework that exists for the effective management of landfill gas. Gas extraction reduces odours and the environmental impacts of the landfill with the captured gas being used to generate electricity at the onsite power station. This drilling will pass through old landfill waste layers with the potential to release odours. Steps are being taken to control these emissions, but there is the possibility that some odour may escape. The strength and duration of any odour event will depend on the prevailing weather conditions at the time. The timing of the works has been scheduled to minimise the odour impact on the community in the unlikely event that this occurs. These works are scheduled to occur during the MRC’s regular opening times of 8:00am-4:45pm, Monday to Friday only, for a period of two weeks, finishing 7th June 2019. The MRC apologises for any inconvenience if you experience landfill odours during these very important works. Should you require further information please contact the MRC administration office on 9306 6303. Image by borjandreu - freepik.com
