Night Fire at Tamala Park A general load of waste delivered late on Monday afternoon to the tipface spontaneously commenced burning early that same evening.
Road works at Recycling The roads to and around the Tamala park Recycling Centre have been undergoing works. These works are the first part of refurbishment and improvements at the site. The road works are expected to be completed early December. The MRC apologies to patrons during this time for any inconvenience cause by these works.
Minister Visits RRF and Tamala Park The Minister for the Environment, the Honourable Albert Jacob MLA, visited the Resource Recovery Facility (RRF) in Neerabup, to see the facility in action and award the Mindarie Regional Council with the Infinity Award trophy for the ‘No Glass in the green lid bin’ campaign. The MRC chairman, Russ Fishwick, was there to accept the award with Brian Callander (CEO).
On the buses The ‘No Glass in the green top bin’ has taken to the streets of Perth on the back of buses. Ten buses carry the message, most operating on routes north of Perth but because the ‘No Glass’ campaign goes into the Town of Victoria Park, a couple of buses also do some southern routes. Keep a look out for them…and importantly take note of the message.
At the Royal Show The Focus for the waste education site at this year’s Perth Royal Show was ‘Is Plastic Fantastic?’ The displays included information on the harm plastics can do if they find their way into the environment in particular the worlds waterways and oceans.
'No Glass' campaign wins award The MRC was awarded an Infinity Award in the Local Government Section for the very successful ‘No Glass in the Green Bin’ campaign.
Commercial paint not accepted at Tamala Park Funding for paint disposal is for household paint (to a maximum of 20 litres at a time) and not for commerical loads.
Tamala Park operates in the heat The Tamala Park Waste Facility will in most circumstances remain open during days of hot and/or extreme weather conditions.
Tamala Park turns 25 Twenty five years ago (February 1991) the Tamala Park landfill opened and received its first load of waste.
Walls being lined A geosynthetic liner is currently being installed on the walls of the Tamala Park landfill. This liner holds the waste within the landfill area, protecting the surround environment.
Recycling at Skyworks Together with the City of Perth the MRC promoted improved waste and recycling opportunities at this year’s Australia Day Skyshow.
No glass in the green top bin The No Glass campaign, launched late last year to encourage people to not place glass items in the green top bin, has from early reports seen positive results.
