MRC Free Asbestos Drop-Off Days
Asbestos Delivery at Tamala Park
The Free Asbestos Drop-off Day is still available on the last Sunday of the month. This commenced in September 2007 and is a welcome support to those wishing to safely dispose of asbestos.
Householders are welcome to drop off asbestos that has been wrapped in heavy duty (200 micron) builders plastic (Forticom) and taped. The plastic is available from Bunnings and major hardware stores. Asbestos is not accepted if wrapped in bin liners. The asbestos must be delivered completely wrapped and securely tied and sealed and clearly labelled ASBESTOS.

Householders can bring as many as they want, but please only drop off 3 sheets at a time to avoid delays in the recycling area. If delivering more than three sheets, you will need to rejoin the queue if the Recycling area is very busy. Please also note that MRC staff are unable to unload your asbestos so make sure you have someone with you to help off-load your asbestos.
No tipping of asbestos from vehicles is allowed at Tamala Park. Also the Red Hill Waste Management Facility does not allow tipping of asbestos.
Bags or bundles containing any type of waste other than asbestos will be rejected.
MRC Management states "because asbestos is such a potentially dangerous product, it is most important to the health of those handling the product, and to the staff at Tamala Park, that great care is taken in dismantling, removing and wrapping asbestos from its location".
Recommended safe work procedures for handling asbestos are available from WorkSafe WA.
Asbestos delivered to Tamala Park which their Customer Services Officer's consider to be inadequately wrapped and sealed will be rejected and disposal will be refused.
As at 1st January 2013, correctly wrapped asbestos can be dropped off at Tamala Park at any time, at a pro-rata disposal fee of $172 a tonne.
