Community is important to the MRC on many levels.

Waste Management is an Essential Community Service

Effective waste management is an essential service provided for the health of the community.  It is important that the highest standards are used to dispose of waste, and in the reuse, recycling and recovery of waste.

The MRC as a Neighbour

The MRC wants to operate in harmony with its neighbours.  The MRC now has two significant components to its business ~ the landfill, waste disposal and recycling precinct at Tamala Park; and the new Resource Recovery Facility (RRF) at Neerabup, operated by BioVision 2020 under contract to the MRC.  The MRC maintains regular contact with its neighbours at both sites and maintains an ongoing dialogue with community members about the operation of the RRF through the long-established Community Engagement Advisory Group (CEAG).

Appropriate Waste Behaviour

The community across the region comprises households of people whose waste comes to the MRC for disposal.  There are many actions that residents can take to contribute to the effective management of waste, and through a variety of communication and education programs, the MRC and its seven member councils encourage people to take steps to improve their waste behaviour, such as:

• Minimise the generation of waste.  Think about your purchasing decisions
• Reuse and recycle as much as you can ( find out how to use organics at home with worm farms and compost bins)
• Keep household hazardous products out of your bins.  Take them instead to Permanent Drop-off facilities at Tamala Park or Recycling Centre, Balcatta.
• Put only household waste in your bin. 
• Contact your local council to find out what to put in your recycling bin
